プロフィール

マサツーセッツ大学で哲学と演劇を専攻していたが、中退し、役者の道へ。舞台で経験を重ねながら、チャンスを待ち続け、75年「ニューヨーク麻薬捜査線」で映画デビュー。そして78年テレンス・マリック監督の「天国の日々」に主演し注目を浴び、80年の「アメリカン・ジゴロ」で人気スターへ。以降、「愛と青春の旅立ち」、「コットン・クラブ」「プリティ・ウーマン」「ジャッカル」など幅広い話題作に出演し、トップスターとして活躍している。私生活では91年にスーパー・モデル、シンディ・クロフォードと結婚し、95年に離婚。02年に女優のキャリー・ローウェルと再婚した。熱心なラマ教徒としても有名。
