プロフィール

父親はイタリア系、母親はアイルランド系アメリカ人。幼少よりダンス、演技を習い、1973年にはブロードウェイの舞台に立つ。75年「魔鬼雨」で映画デビューし、翌年の「キャリー」を経て、77年「サタデー・ナイト・フィーバー」でスターに。以降「グリース」（78）、「アーバン・カウボーイ」（80）、「ミッドナイトクロス」（81）と話題作に多く出演する。80年代中頃から低迷するが、タランティーノ監督の「パルプ・フィクション」（94）で復活し、「ゲット・ショーティ」（95）でゴールデングローブ賞の最優秀主演男優賞を受賞。その後の主な出演作に「フェイス／オフ」（97）、「ソードフィッシュ」（01）、「団塊ボーイズ」（07）、「パリより愛をこめて」（10）、など。「ギャング・イン・ニューヨーク」（18）、「ワイルド・レース」（19）などではプロデューサーも兼ねた。私生活では熱心なサイエントロジー信者と言われている。
